It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Niina Louko on Monday, November 22, 2010 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Predeceased by her beloved husband Leo (1974), 1 brother of Finland and her parents. Niina is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughters Marja (Tom) Wakeford of Kirkland Lake and Margaret Louko of Saskatoon; her granddaughters Lisa Wakeford Myers (Mike) of Guelph, Tammy Boissonneault (Paul) of Ottawa and Tracy Wakeford of Toronto; her precious great grandchildren Matthew and Meredith Boissonneault, and Mitchell Myers. Niina also had a great love for dogs and will be especially missed by 5 granddogs Bailey, Earl, Raiju, Angus and Bingo. Dearly missed by sisters-in-law Liisa (Heikki) Alanen and their family, Greta (late Olavi) Maenpaa and their family as well as her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews all of Finland. She enjoyed the many activities at Teck-Pioneer Residence, especially the Bingos and Bowling. Niina was a strong, hard working women who enjoyed making huge 2 pm family dinners, the cottage in Kenogami, blueberry picking, and helping others. She was an involved member of the Finnish Lutheran Church and volunteered for many organizations including the Encore Club, among others, especially through the Bingo Hall. Niina also dedicated a great deal of time to knitting, and working on Finnish rag rugs. Many may remember her brown 1974 Ford Maverick, of which she was so proud. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the “Teck-Hughes” Chapel of the MONETTE & FRENCH FUNERAL HOME (450 Government Road West, Kirkland Lake, ON., P2N 3L1) with Rev. David Naylor officiating. Donations in Niina’s memory may be made to the Kirkland & District Hospital (145 Government Road East, Kirkland Lake, Ontario, P2N 3P4), Sudbury Regional Hospital – Nephrology Department (41 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury, ON, P3E 5J1) or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (P.O. So sorry for your lose. I’ll never forget growing up next door to the Louko’s. Loved it when Mrs. Louko would call me and Margaret in from sitting on the roof of the garage for some homemade Finish baking. She was a very strong woman who finally got her driver’s licence and I watched as she backed that brown car out of the garage. RIP Mrs. Louko…
