BURTON, Munroe
It is with deep, deep sorrow that the family of Munroe Burton announces his passing, peacefully on December 8, 2014. The son of Jeffrey Munroe Burton and Olive Mathilda Burton (nee Ross), he was born in Seaforth, Ontario July 4, 1929. His full name was George Alexander Munroe Burton but he went throughout his life by the name Munroe. Raised in Matheson, he was educated in Matheson, Montieth and Iroquois Falls (Ansonville). He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He soon chose teaching as his profession and taught at Englehart High School, his entire career (35 years) where he also held the position of Vice Principal. He married Eva May Cowell on August 14, 1956 and they had two children, the twins, Thomas Jeffery and Olive Ann. His family and profession were of importance to him beyond words; and he took sustenance from his love of the land and water. He tutored students well into his retirement and was an active volunteer on many community boards: such as long time treasurer of the United Church and member of the Englehart Library Board. Predeceased by his parents Jeff and Ollie, his infant brother Ross, his beloved aunts Pearl and Vera and close cousin Eleanor. He leaves behind his beloved wife, of 58 years, Eva; and son Tom (Ginette Dussault) Burton, daughter Olive (Peter) Vanderkooy; as well as three grandchildren, Matthew (Jacqueline Kreller) Vanderkooy, Alan (Lisa D’Agostino) Vanderkooy and Stephanie (Jared) Bonis, all so dear to his heart. Munroe held his heritage close and continued to farm the family farm where he was raised. Field and forest, river and garden were his elements, comforts and pleasures. Many were touched by his deep commitment to others. Above all his family – Eva, Olive and Tom wish to give thanks for his life and his love. May he be remembered as a man with a good heart.
