The family announces with deep sorrow the unexpected death at his home of Michael Lee Del Monte on Monday, November 27, 2023 at the age of 69.
Michael was born on May 18, 1954 in South Porcupine to Arlie (McCharles) and Lino Del Monte, who both predeceased him in 2011. He grew up in Timmins where he still has many family & friends who love him and will miss him deeply.
Michael is survived by his two children, Matthew & Sarah, his two beloved grandchildren George & Rosie, and his wife Kathryn Pirie. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Mark Del Monte (Judy) as well as the large extended Del Monte and Pirie families, and by his many friends in the Tri Town area, Timmins and South Porcupine.
Michael was larger than life; with a big personality, an even bigger heart and a wicked sense of humour. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, woodworking, cooking and growing his endless supply of hot peppers.
He loved sharing fabulous feasts with family and friends, followed by a game of cards and a glass of wine.
Above all, Michael cherished his family. There was no limit to his devotion to his children & grandchildren. There is nothing he would not have done for them and he loved being “poppa” to George & Rosie more than anything.
Michael also loved his many nieces, nephews and in laws in the Del Monte and Pirie families. He was the “favorite” uncle who filled the room and was ready with a big hug and wonderful stories.
We will miss him forever.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative, 128 Whitewood Avenue West, New Liskeard on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 2 – 4 p.m. A Celebration of Michael’s life will take place this spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospital for Sick Children (555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 1X8, https://www.sickkids.ca/en/support-sickkids/donate) or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (2300 Yonge Street, Suite 1200, Box 2414, Toronto, ON M4P 1E4, https://www.heartandstroke.ca) would be appreciated by his family.

Shocked to hear this news. So sorry for your loss. Will miss that ever-present smile and big personality. It's the only way I will remember him and the growing up years we shared. Such great times I will miss laughing together about. We could always count on Michael whatever was needed. Usually it was a ride, in whatever vehicle he had saved and restored; or dinner as he was equally at home in kitchen.
I will miss seeing him for now- take care my friend
Mike has been a life long member of our small group of high school friends who have kept in touch with email chains, bi-annual get togethers, including some really messy golf, story telling that continued to expand and embellish with every visit and of course gourmet
cooking and long meals together that included Mike's peppers. Yes we will miss his large personality and presence, but his friendship and our memories together will last forever. Godspeed my friend. Heaven is in for a treat.
Our sincere sympathy to Katherine and Family in the sudden loss of Mike. We enjoyed him as our neighbour, may be rest in peace.
