VELDHUIS, Margaret

1944 - 2022

After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Rachel Margaret Veldhuis, known as Margaret, died on March 29th, 2022 at the Northview Nursing Home in Englehart, Ontario.  She was born in Hilliard Township on February 17th, 1944 to Ralph and Maude Carleton, and she married John Jacob Veldhuis on May 22, 1965.  Margaret took immense joy in tending to her farm and garden and taking care of her cats and dogs.  As an active member of her community, she volunteered at the Hudson Outreach Library and the Temiskaming Hospital Gift Shop, and she loved to write satirical songs that she performed with the Grumbling Grannies.  Margaret was also an accomplished quilter, and her quilts are still enjoyed by her family. Margaret is survived by her sons, Lincoln (Lori) and Jared, her sisters Barbara, Ruth and Betty and her brother John.  She was predeceased by her older brother, Edward.  Margaret was a proud adoring grandma to her grandson, Sam.

Visitation will take place at 10am at the Perrin Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 9th, 2022 with a funeral service to follow in the Perrin Funeral Home Chapel at 11 am.  Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be served at the Hillview United Church.  Contributions in memory of Margaret can be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation at  https://alzheimer.ca/en

Betty and John

We would like to extend our sincere condolences on the loss of your sister Margaret to you and the rest of the family. I (Linda) met her many years ago when we lived in New Liskeard and she worked at the Demonstration Farm with Isabelle Steele.

Lincoln & Jared Veldhuis

Lincoln & Jared,
My family holds you each in our thoughts as you journey through this time of saying goodbye.
Aunt Margaret's kindness was always felt when we visited. She was a straight shooter, ready to share her connection with nature, fill us up with great meals and welcome us into her way of 'living' life.
My memories start within my own childhood and expand from there to those with my own children.
I am thinking you have been saying goodbye to her for sometime now, the Alzheimer's journey makes it that way.
Please know that we hold you both in our hearts and although we are unable to attend the service, we will keep you in our intentions most especially in the days to come.
Thoughts for you,
Veronica, Greg, Taffin, Maddie & Samm
