On behalf of the Hums family, I extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to the Stratford family on the passing of Mrs. Stratford. All of us have fond memories of her at Virginiatown Public School where she was the principal for all five Hums children. Many of us were so happy to have the chance to visit her last summer and she, as always, was radiant and chatty as she gave us a tour of the residence. She will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy to your family in the loss of your mom and grandmother. We have such good memories of her from school in V-town, Over the years she taught myself, my sisters Janet, Susan, Joanne and my brother Butch. Our mother, May Gillis, spoke so highly of your mom. To Brian, Bruce and families. We are so very saddened to hear of Margaret’s passing. I have been literally thinking of her every couple of weeks lately hoping to get to see her when I finally get north this year. I guess its not to be and is surely my loss. The friendship which was fostered between she and Norma was a special one and through that Katy, Kim and I grew to love Margaret as well. There is no doubt that TPR will feel her loss profoundly and never be quite the same. I feel sad for Charlie at the loss of his little card shark. So many fond memories and stories come to mind and I shall share one. In a conversation with one of Lavern’s baseball team members I was told of an evening after a baseball game which Margaret had attended when they gathered at a local watering hole. The waitress informed the ladies at the table of the exotic concoctions of the night, one being called a ???? ???! (I’ll let Lavern field that one). As the orders were taken around the table it came to Margaret and she calmly asked the waitress if there was a seniors discount on the ???? ???!!!!!! When I next saw Margaret at the Home I told her what I had heard and asked if I could please recount it at her Memorial Service, she looked and me and said, “you have my permission. And, do I have your permission to tell it at yours?” That was Margaret. And we will miss her. Lynn Elliott

My heartfelt condolences to the Stratford Family. My first meeting with Mrs. Stratford was when while she was principal at Virginiatown Public School back in the early 70’s. The Larder public school would travel to V-Town once a week to have home ec or the boys with shop. Our first class began with Mrs. Stratford letting us know that there would be no tolerance for misbehaving. She might have been tiny, but she certainly was formidable as we all abided by her wishes. (well most of us lol). As time passes and we all got older, I was fortunate enough to run into her now and then. It always struck me on how fine of a lady she was. And always loved a good chuckle. Mrs. Stratford knew how to live life and she was fortunate to live a good long one hundred and three of them. We could all learn from her. She will be missed!
