Margaret (Madeleine) Madeline Smith (nee Ayotte), 80, of New Liskeard, ON, passed away on May 13, 2021. Madeleine was born to parents Pete and Marg Ayotte, on May 29, 1940 in New Liskeard, ON. Madeleine worked at Northern Telephone over 40 years. She retired from Northern Telephone in 1997. Madeleine and her friend Verda Peckover were inducted into the Canadian Telecommunications Hall of Fame Laureate Awards on October 17, 2005. They accepted an award on behalf of tens of thousands of telephone operators across Canada, recognized for their tireless efforts, dedication and heroism displayed over a century. Madeleine was outgoing, social and always kind. She was a good friend and was known to always be available to provide a ride home to those who “shouldn’t” drive. She was a great mother, and she adored her grandchildren. Madeleine enjoyed gardening with her husband, spending time with her grandchildren and she was always ready to go out for dinner with her family and friends. She loved to travel to Nova Scotia and the Ottawa Valley in the summer to visit with family. She volunteered at the hospital gift shop, and she looked forward to spending time with her friends at the casino. Madeleine was predeceased by her husband Richard and infant son Timmy; her parents Pete and Marg Ayotte and brother Bob. Richard and Madeleine spent most of their married life in the New Liskeard/Uno Park area. Madeleine is survived by her son Rick (granddaughter Elaine), daughter Donna (George Muir) (grandsons Ryan and Braydon Muir) and son Ed. Madeleine is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. As per her wishes, there will be no funeral service.
