RODGERS, Jean

1927 - 2012

After a lengthy illness, Jean Rodgers died peacefully at her home on Long Lake on April 6, 2012. She was born in Englehart on May 25, 1927, to Herman Joukes Devries and Annie Marie (Cottrill) Devries. Educated at Savard Public School, she married Alden Rodgers in Kirkland Lake on April 20, 1946. Mrs. Rodgers was a homemaker who volunteered her time at Northview Lodge for many years. She and her husband lived on their farm in Savard for 35 years and retired to their cottage on Long Lake in Robillard in 1983. Mrs. Rodgers treasured her family and friends. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was very active in the Good Shepherd Congregational Church and her community. At home she enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, quilting and sewing. She was also an avid photographer and she never left home without her camera. Mrs. Rodgers is survived by her children Shelva, Valerie (Mike), Ron (Joyce), Richard (Darlene) and Raymond (Michelle); grandchildren Andrea, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Andrew, Leisa, Melissa, Stephen, Anna, Leaman, Sarah, Jonathan, Dayna, Zachary and Mackenzie; and great-grandchildren Jake, Josh, J-Jay and Leanna. She was predeceased by her husband Alden, parents Annie and Herman Devries, siblings Mina, Katie, Nellie, Sye, Con, Cecil and Herman. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home with the service conducted April 9 by Pastor Steve Crosby at the Good Shepherd Congregational Church. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Burial is at the Charlton Cemetery. In memory contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Celiac Association or the Good Shepherd Congregational Church would be appreciated by the family.
