Forbes, James

FORBES, James

1954 - 2025

It is with sadness the family of James Harold (Jimmy) Forbes announce his passing, on February 2, 2025. Jimmy was born in Toronto, to Bernice (Milton, Forbes, Wildman) and Harold James Forbes. When Jimmy was a toddler, the family moved to Kirkland Lake, Ontario and he was raised in a bustling household with his two brothers (Carl and Gary) and two sisters (Ilona and Laurie).

As a young man, Jimmy worked as an underground miner for a short time, as a log scaler for Great Lakes Forest Products, and spent most of his time prospecting for himself and for numerous mining companies. His true passion was prospecting and he could be found in the “bush” until medical conditions prevented him from being where he loved.

Jimmy was thrilled with the birth of each of children James (Jimmy), Melissa, and Stephen. He welcomed his stepson Alan into his family.
Jimmy was predeceased by his father, mother, brother Carl, and sister Ilona. He is survived by his children Jimmy, Melissa, and Stephen (Annie), His sister Laurie (Andor and their children Jason, Brooke, and Yuri) and brother Gary (Jennifer and their children Kenneth, Andrea, and Derek).

Jimmy will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of animals, and enjoyment of the peace he found in the bush prospecting or enjoying his favorite pastime, fishing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 22 at 2pm, at the Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative (111 Burnside Drive in Kirkland Lake) followed by a light lunch. All are welcome to share in Jimmy's memory!

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Laurie and Family

It is with great sadness I recieve this news. From early teens Jimmy and I were good friends, partied, prospected, fished and even started a incorporation together.
Jimmy had a struggle in later life but we managed to keep our friendship true.
Laurie hope you are well

I am very sorry to hear the sad news concerning Jimmy .I taught him in my early years at KLCVI and learned quickly that he would always rather have been in the great outdoors than in school . We always got along well and I appreciated his good humour and friendliness both in school and later when meeting in KL ! A good guy!
My condolences to the family - Brian Hamilton

Sorry for your loss . Jimmy was a very colourful character and friend , whenever he was around laughter was sure to follow . We played baseball( Franklin Snakebellies) together and celebrated after every game . Talked prospecting a bit and the crew would go to his place on Queen to watch some football games . If I saw him walking I would turn around and catch up with him and see if he wanted a ride , he would usually decline the offer as he liked to be moving. Bang On Brother up in the sky . RIP Jimmie .

I knew Jimmy during the 1960’s. He was a kind lovable kid with a great sense of humour and a compassion for others less fortunate. He had many endearing qualities at that young age that impressed his older peer group. Jimmy idolized his older brother Carl and it seems fit that he would follow Carl in the field of prospecting. My condolences to his family. My most memorable memory of him was when he was in the K. L. Hospital. On a Saturday night we sneaked him out of the back door of the hospital. We drove him through downtown K. L. In the back seat of the convertible. When we returned him to the hospital we forced him to walk through the main entrance. I can still visualize him with his million dollar smile and his hospital gown with his backside in full view. He did not give us away. In those days we called him little Forbes. It is comforting to know that he grew up to be a big man loved by all.
