Jack Stuart McKnight, age 82, son of Harry and Ola, died Monday August 5, 2013 at the Temiskaming Hospital after a short battle with liver cancer. He was pre-deceased by his wife Betty and his brothers Don and Gord. He is survived by his children Scott, Patti and Greg; Scott's children, Chelsie (Jim) and Cole, their mother Anne, Scott's wife Kelly and her children Justin, Jessie and AJ; Patti's husband Steve and their daughter Jessica; and Greg's wife Karen and their children Larissa, Alison and Carter. He is also survived by his partner Evelyn Sargent and her children Mark and Jane. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him including many friends and patrons of McKnight's Mens Wear. Jack was born on March 30, 1931 in New Liskeard where he lived his whole life. He was an active member of the community having been President and Board Member of Haileybury and New Liskeard Golf Clubs in addition to the Tri-Town Ski village. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and was involved with the local business association. He was an accomplished athlete who excelled in hockey, baseball, golf, skiing, and curling. The highlight of his hockey career was winning the Memorial Cup with the Barrie Flyers in 1951. Jack was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, ski-dooing and cottaging with family and friends. In his later years Jack pursued his passion for adventure by taking to the highways on his motorcycle. He developed many new biking friends and enjoyed the company of his 'Star Chapter' buddies. As recently as last year he was able to take a trip to the east coast on his Honda Goldwing. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at the New Liskeard Golf Club on Friday August 9th 2013 at 2:00 pm. Biking, golf and/or casual attire is encouraged. There will be a reception following the Memorial Service. Donations in Jack's memory to the Community Cancer Care c/o Temiskaming Foundation, Box 160, New Liskeard would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
