It is wit much sorrow we announce the death of Mr. Ivan Smith in his 87th year on Wednesday April 25, 2012 at the Englehart & District Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Arlie (nee Church), his son Robin of Sault Ste. Marie, 2 grandchildren Mark & Laura Smith of Sault Ste. Marie and his sister Vera Floyd of Stittsville. He will also be sadly missed by his Brother-in-law Don Church of Englehart, sister-in-law Joan Price & her husband Bob of Barrie & Audrey Church of Englehart. Pre-deceased by his parents Ernest & Laura nee Kuhnke and his daughter-in-law Beverly Smith, Brother-in-law Renaildo “Nelly” Church & Doug Floyd. Ivan was born October 28, 1925 in Englehart. He proudly served in both the army & air force. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Englehart Branch 104. He was also a member of the Englehart Masonic Lodge Branch # 534. He got his 14th degree – 18th degree Scottish Rites in North Bay & achieved his 32nd degree in Barrie. Ivan was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing & hunting and the great outdoors. Being a sports enthusiast, he loved golf in the summer, curling and skiing in the winter. Ivan was a locomotive Engineer on the O.N.R. for 42 years. The family of the late Mr. Ivan Smith will meet friends for a `Celebration of Life` at the Royal Canadian Legion, Englehart Branch 104 on Friday, May 11, 2012. A Masonic & Legion Service will start at 11:00am, followed with a luncheon and fellowship until 2:00pm. In memory contributions to Englehart Elevator Fund or the 701 Restoration Fund will be greatly appreciated by the family.
