Irene Doris (Blum)Freedman-
April 25, 1931 - February 26,2022.
With the dignity, strength, courage, and the privacy that our mother chose to live her life, Ma, Mom, Grandma, GG, Mrs. Murphy, Irene, Mrs. Freedman, all of which she may have been known by, passed away peacefully at Blanche River Health - Kirkland Lake Site surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Morris (1999); parents Morton and Bessie Blum, and brother Adolph (Ruth) Blum.
Mom is survived by her children, Richard (Brenda) & Barbara, cherished “G” to Mitchell, “GG” to Kaitlin , Ainsley, Travis (Miranda) & Olivia. Sisters in law Ruth Tannewald (Kurt), Eunice (William) Freedman, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
MOM, our rock, mentor, confident, best friend.
OUR MOTHER WILL BE MISSED AS MUCH AS SHE WAS LOVED.

So sorry to read another K.Laker has passed away and a Friend....Met the Freedman's in 1969 while working at the Fashion Centre. Her hubby Morris were in the store on a regular everyday routine, being friends with the Wertman's and we stayed friends all these years. I am so sorry for your Family's loss. RIP Irene

Was so sorry to hear of the loss of another true pioneer of our community. She was quite the lady, always had a smile and a wave to her neighbors, she will be missed.

I can’t tell you the number of times I spent treasured moments somewhere in KL chatting with this very special, very interesting lady. She was always so anxious to share thoughts about the worlds events and local goings on. I just loved running in to her. It was always a delight to spend time with her. I will miss her. Thoughts and prayers for all the family.

Richard I am deeply sorry of your mom’s passing. She was an absolute pleasure to talk with. We had many intellectual conversations. When I would mention my travels around the world and especially New York City we both had a lot to talk about. She knew my parents very well and knew me growing up as a little girl. My heart broke when I saw the passing of your mom. Such a beautiful picture of a classy lady. I will always remember the times I would pass by her house with my 2 boys and she would come out to give them popsicles. They called her the popsicle lady. I will miss chatting with her. I have just learned of your mom's passing. My heart is filled with sorrow as I offer you my deep condolences. Barb, I have many fond memories of your mom that surface from our adventurous teenage years. She was a wonderful lady. As years went by she crossed my path often. Everytime I saw her she always had a kind word and a motherly smile.

Although my parents may have known Morris and Irene for a lot longer, I got to know them when I began going to school with Richard in 1971. I made an instant connection. From that point on, I was a frequent visitor at their house. They always made me feel so welcome.
After Morris passed away and, later, my father, Irene remained a good friend to my mother.
My wife, Agnès, and I remained in contact with Irene over the years. We were pleased to see her whenever she visited North Bay, when would catch up on the Freedman family news.
Irene had many good qualities. The one I think we appreciated the most was her lack of pretense. Irene was a no-nonsense sort of person. She was genuine. What you saw was what you got. And you got a lot.
We know that Irene will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her, especially her family. We offer our sincerest condolences on such a great loss. May you be comforted knowing that you are not alone.

She was a very classy beautiful woman who I initially met during a visit to the synagogue in my primary school years. What a legacy she and Morris left in our little community.

Sorry for your loss. I remember Irene attending one of our sorority meetings in Kirkland Lake as Marilyn A.'s guest and sharing with us how she cared for her plants. To this day, I water my plants every Sunday and think of her.
