STEFANICH, Helvi (nee Purola) – Former proprietor of Barney’s store in Larder Lake. It is with great sorrow that the family wishes to announce the passing of Helvi Stefanich (nee Purola) at the Kirkland Lake Extendicare Nursing Home on Sunday, August 3rd, 2014 at the age of 75 years. Helvi was predeceased by her beloved husband John Stefanich on March 5, 2008 and her parents Oskar and Alma Purola (Peltola). She is survived by her brothers Olavi Purola (Suzanne), Marti Purola; sister Alli Tamminen (late Toby); sister-in-law Renie Stefanich (late Bill), brother-in-law Mike Stefanich, nieces and nephews Elaine and Raymond Tamminen, Jill Purola (Mark), Andrew Purola, Tracey and Rosanne Brown, Mark, Jody, and Kyle Stefanich. Helvi was an active member of the Catholic Church and proud member of the Catholic Women’s League in Larder Lake. She and her late husband John contributed greatly to their community and loved interacting and socializing with friends and family. Helvi was known for her passion for animals; especially her poodles Pierre and Prince as well as her much loved cat Joey. Helvi will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A special thanks from the family to the staff at Extendicare for their loving and compassionate care of Helvi. In accordance with Helvi’s wishes, a cremation has taken place. A private family memorial will take place at a future date. Donations in Helvi’s memory may be made to the Ontario Humane Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.Offer Condolence for the family of Helvi Kyllikki Stefanich

Sincere condolences and my deepest sympathy to Helvi’s family. Our family has grown up with both John and Helvi. Helvi was one of my closest and dearest friends and will be sorely missed. She was a kind, caring, compassionate and thoughtful friend. She has left our family with so many wonderful and humorous memories. I am saddened she is gone, love you my friend. I along with many Larder Lakers remember Helvi and Johnny from our many visits to Barney’s. I am saddened to hear of her passing and wish all the members of her family, sincere condolences.
