In memory of Helen Elizabeth Washington who passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Fenelon Court Nursing Home, Fenelon Falls, Ontario at the age of 92. Helen was born on April 23, 1921, the youngest child of Charles Washington and Sarah Down. Her mother died when Helen was six and her father raised the four daughters on their farm in Hilliard Township. She graduated from New Liskeard High School and her first job as a secretary was at the Town Office in Larder Lake. Her ambition to work in accounting began a quest and several moves. She worked at the Kirkland Lake Hospital, later with Avarti, an aluminum company near Chicoutimi, QC and finally her job with Omega Mine in Larder Lake. When the Omega Mine closed, she moved to Val D'Or to work at Sigma Mine until her retirement. Shortly afterwards, she moved to New Liskeard to be near her sister Louise. In 2006, she moved to William Place Retirement Home in Lindsay, Ontario and in May, 2013 to Fenelon Court, Fenelon Falls, Ontario. Helen loved to read and do crosswords. In earlier years, she was an avid cross-country skier and played bridge. She loved sports and followed tennis, curling, hockey and baseball. Her greatest passion was travel, she stated the only place she missed seeing was Australia. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother William, sisters Louise (Keith) Reid, Amy (Frank) Hopkins and Jean Washington. She is survived by nieces Janet (Rudy) Boettcher, Sharon Reid (Jim Johnson) and Sally (Tom) Cox and nephews: John (Dianne) Reid, Bill (Leslie) Reid, Bob (Carol) Reid, and Keith (Anne) Hopkins as well as several great-nieces and great- nephews. Helen's family will receive friends at the Perrin Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. Internment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Haileybury, Ontario.
