Barbara,Kerry&Bruce
Very sorry for your loss, sending love and peace in your time of sorrow.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Fred Burrows of Englehart, Ont. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 20, 2022, at the age of 74. He was loved very much and will be missed terribly.
Fred was born in Brampton Ont on September 28, 1947 to William & Hazel (Monk). Fred was predeceased by his parents, parents in-law Chester Smith & Bernice Smith (Jack), sister Ruth McKechnie, sisters in-law Cathy Smith and Micheline Smith, brothers in-law John Cragg, Harold Smith, Neil Smith and David Zinck.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Smith) of 53 years. They were married on June 28, 1969. Survived and beloved by his 2 children Kerry (Tyler) and Bruce (Tania); his Grandchildren Stephen (Kayla), Justin (Chelsea), Kaitlin (Ryan), Riley (Jorden), Dawson (Jamie), Cole, Rebecca & Makenzie; his Great Grandchildren Finnley, Griffin, Ava, Daxton, Marcus & Olivea; his siblings Sharon Zinck, Paul Burrows (Reta) & Barb Fuller (Gerry); brother in-law Jim Smith, sisters in-law Anne Cragg, Ellen MacPherson (Milton) & Yvonne Reid and many, much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Fred was an avid sports fan. Loved watching the Toronto Maple Leafs & Toronto Blue Jays. He was extensively involved with minor baseball, minor hockey and the NOHA for many, many years. Travelled to many hockey tournaments across Canada. He umpired throughout Temiskaming and also travelled to North Bay and Goderich Ont.
He loved umpiring minor baseball more than anything and passing his knowledge of the game onto the next generation. He watched many kids grow up through the sports he was involved in and was always pleased to see them successful as adults.
Before his accident at Adams Mine in 1986, he played hockey, broomball, fastball, slopitch and bowling.
He volunteered much of his time to the local community, driving the wheelchair bus and being a member of the Rotary Club of Englehart. He could also be depended upon to drive people, whether he knew them or not, that needed to be driven to medical appointments with his own vehicle.
He loved going to play cards at the Englehart Legion Branch 104. He also enjoyed stopping in and visiting with friends & family, sometimes playing cards, other games or just chatting. He loved camping and spreading time outdoors.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Sylvianne Desilets (NP), and the rest of the healthcare team for treating Fred with kindness and dignity and making him as comfortable as possible in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations to be directed to a charity of choice, in Fred’s name.
Fred will be interned at a private ceremony at the Englehart Cemetery on Friday, August 26, 2022. This will be followed by an Informal Celebration of Life from 3 pm to 6 pm, to be hosted by Rick and Nikki MacPherson at 388107 Alpine Road, off Highway 11, north of Englehart. Please bring chairs.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart hearing of the passing of Fred. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Barb and the Family. Fred and I spent countless hours together in the rink facilitating coaching clinics and Development Camps for the NOHA. Fred was a giving and tireless worker all for the betterment of the players and coaches. He truly earned and deserved his status as a Life Member of the NOHA. I also remember the fun times we had while he was umpiring ball with his old side kick Pete. Rest in Peace my friend. - Rick and Cindy Barron

Sorry for your lose, I can remember all the work he did in organizing youth hockey tournaments in Englehart. I am pretty sure you can count on one hand the number of hockey games he missed that I played in with Bruce, and he was never worried about the result of the game. He will be missed, remember all the laughs and stories you experienced with him.
