Florence Bortot,

FLORENCE BORTOT,

2021

BORTOT, Florence ClaraIt is with heavy hearts and overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of Florence Bortot on July 4th, 2020 at the age of 89. Predeceased by her parents Pasquale and Annetta Calderan, her beloved husband Bruno, cherished son Larry (Shirley) and brother-in-laws Norman Ceppetelli and Mike Gunsinger. She is survived by her dear sisters Eleanor Ceppetelli and Norma Gunsinger. A loving mother to Peter (Linda), adoring Nonna to Jeremy (Charleen), Lindsay (Engin), Angela (Steve), Sarah (Andrew), and proud Bis Nonna to Owen, Cooper, Zachary, Mason, Leland, Braydon, and Callie; she will be dearly missed. Zia Florence will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Florence was born in Timmins, moved to Larder Lake at a young age and never left. She worked for the Township of Larder Lake as an Assistant Clerk for 40+ years. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and the church choir, she found strength in her faith and it never wavered in the face of adversity or loss. Florence liked to crochet, knit, read and enjoy a cup of tea while chatting to friends and relatives near and far. She had an uncanny ability to remember every occasion with a card and a call. It may have been her Italian genes and good taste, but she made the best spaghetti sauce. Florence loved her church, loved her town and loved her family and her family loved her.Thank you to nurses, doctors and medical staff at the Kirkland and District Hospital for looking after Mom with care, kindness and compassion and also for the support you have provided us. A very special thank you to all the family and friends who have also helped us through this difficult time.Te Amo, Mom, Nonna, Bis Nonna. Forever in our hearts.“The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”

We are sorry to hear of the passing of Florence. We had the honor of being neighbors for a few years and she became a good friend. We have great memories and stories of the time spent with her. The community was definitely a better one when Florence was near. A wonderful volunteer in every sense of the word. She will be looking down on everyone and everyone will be blessed.

Dear Peter and Family, I was so very sad to hear that your Mother had passed. It won’t be the same coming home to Larder and not seeing her smiling face or hearing her cheery voice. Church will not be the same without such a dedicated parish member. She will be missed. My sincere condolences to all of you.

To Peter Bortot and Family: My mother Enrica Cecol, Mary, Nora and Dominic Cecol are sending our sincere condolences to your Peter, your family, relatives, and dear friends of your Mother. She definitely had the ‘northern’ spirit and I remember when she used to visit my parents when they lived in Kirkland Lake. Peter and family, your Mother will always be with you in your memories, the laughter of your children, when you make one of her favorite Italian recipes and the smiles of her grandchildren. Condolences to all.

Florence was one of a kind in the very best of ways. If she was your friend, you were priviliged. She worked many years with my father-in-law, Jim O’Shaughnessy and he had nothing but love and respect for her as did Dave and I. When we visited her in 2019 she was the same as when we had last seen her. She will be very missed.
