It is with the utmost sorrow the family announces the passing of Ethel Sarah Jane (née Lawrence) Evans at the Timiskaming Hospital in New Liskeard on Monday, February 21, 2011 in her ninety-sixth year. She was born in Englehart, Ontario on October 21, 1915, to Harry and Lila (née Marshall) Lawrence. Beloved mother of Allan (Doris) Evans and Beth (late Duncan) Ritchie; wonderful “Nan” to 5 grandchildren – Debbie (Ken) Miller, Derek, Darryl and Ken Meeks, and Scott (Linda) Evans; 5 great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-Muriel (Ted) Bates, Eleanor (Wayne) Mitchell; one brother Bill (Marion) Lawrence and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. She enjoyed spending time at the cottage, knitting, crocheting, and tending her numerous household plants. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed having company for meals. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Relatives and friends attended from Waterloo, Cambridge, Hillsburgh, Wilberforce, New Liskeard, Englehart, Kirkland Lake and Timmins. The family will receive friends at the Monette & French Funeral Home (450 Government Road West, Kirkland Lake, ON., P2N 3L1) on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the “Teck-Hughes” Chapel of the Funeral Home with Rev. David Naylor officiating. Ethel will be laid to rest in May at the Kirkland Lake Cemetery.
