Glen, Patrick and Mike, Please accept my condolence for you wife and Mother, I know how much you loved her. Rest in Peace my friend.
It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Emmaline MacPherson (Nee Frank) on November 20th, 2020 at the Kirkland & District Hospital. Emmaline will be forever missed and dearly remembered by her loving husband Glendon MacPherson; her children Patrick (Jaime Hennessey) and Michael (Vince Lomore); her grandchildren; her many nieces and nephews and many members of her extended family. Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Jean Micmac; her brother Roy; her sister Jessie as well as her grandson Jeff.Emmaline was born at Beaverhouse First Nation and began a career at the Kirkland Lake Stock Market which eventually led her to working at the New York Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange in the 1960’s. Upon returning home to Kirkland Lake in 1970, she became a strong advocate for First Nation issues which led her to become the Chief of Beaverhouse First Nation for many years. She retired in the 1990’s but never lost the passion. Despite this success, her foremost priority was always being a mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt , cousin and friend. She will be greatly missed by many. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Kirkland & District Hospital and those who supported her in the last few years. A special acknowledgment to members of Beaverhouse First Nation. She loved each of you greatly.Cremation has taken place and a ceremony will be held at Beaverhouse First Nation in the Spring.Offer Condolence for the family of Emmaline MacPherson
Glen, Patrick and Mike, Please accept my condolence for you wife and Mother, I know how much you loved her. Rest in Peace my friend.
ALL IN PEACE
Hello Mike, I just learned about the passing of your mother and wanted to send you and your family my deepest condolences. I am so sorry I never got to meet her in person but whenever we spoke she was always so friendly, helpful and very proud of you. She obviously cared about her family and about her history and Beaverhouse. I know this must be a very difficult time for you so remember to take the time you need and hold on to the happy memories. Im sure I told you this story, but just in case I didnt …… I few years ago I reached out to your mom via phone to let her know after I had done some research I realized the lake where Chief Tonene had first found gold (as early as the 1880s by the way…one of his many great accomplishments) was meant to be named after him in 1928, but due to that clerical error it was misspelled and never corrected. The lake by the highway was always named wrong. When I mentioned this to your mom (who I first contacted after finding a letter in a UofT library that she wrote in 1983(?) to the Ontario Archaeological Society asking about a local Indigenous burial site) she said Ohhhhhh yes, that has been bothering me my whole life! I then asked her if she wanted to change the writing on the sign to say Chief Tonene Lake as it was suppose to be, to which she responded Yes!……Do you want to go tonight?!!. Now, I meant going through the Ontario Geographical Naming Commission, but I think she meant lets get a can of paint tonight and Ill stand on your shoulders and lets get it done now!! Ha ha. As you know, with her help we did get the name legally changed to Chief Tonene Lake, but part of me regrets I didnt pick her up that night with a ladder and a can of paint and a folding chair and she could have sat back and watched me do some painting. She will no doubt be missed.
Condolences to the family .She was a beautiful soul.
Emma touched so many people. Her smile, generosity and caring will be remembered forever. Emma had a special place in heaven. Condolences to her sons and family.
As the grandaughter of Tonene, Clan of the white bear, Emmaline was a descendant of a great Ojibway lineage. She presented the life of Tonene to the Temiskaming Abitibi Heritage Association recounting how he had discovered the gold that became the Kerr Addison Mine. I recall her from the days she stayed with the Tenant Family in the Federal while attending high school. She began working at the stock exchange in Kirkland Lake and later Toronto, thus paving the way for future generations of indigenous women to succeed in the white man’s world. A great lady and inspiration to all who knew her.
So sorry Glen, Pat and Michael, she is with our Creator and they are watching over you. XO
