Elda Milligan (née Peterson),

ELDA MILLIGAN (NÉE PETERSON),

2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Elda on Saturday, June 17, 2017. After a lengthy illness and with her family at her side, Elda passed away peacefully. Elda is the cherished mother to Jocelyn (Glenn) and Darren, beloved grandmother to Jason, Brandon, Danielle, Tanis and Dane, as well as many great grandchildren. Elda is predeceased by her husband Maurice, her son Rodney, her sister Myrtle; and her parents Ellen and Bert Peterson, and step father Stan Rybarski. Elda passed on her terms with dignity, a sense of humor, wit and good spirits which she always maintained. Her love for her friends and card playing buddies kept her spirit young. A special thank you to the dedicated Dr’s, Nurses and Staff of the Kirkland & District Hospital for the care and attention they provided while Mom was a patient. Our Mother was very strong and as solid as a rock, and while we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing she has joined her family in heaven. Thank You, Mom, for giving us life and making us the people we are today. All our Love and xxo’s.

Dear Jocelyn, Darren and families: I was saddened to hear about the loss of your mother. Since childhood and up until I saw her about 6 plus months ago, she was a true friend and one of the kindest ladies I ever knew. As of recent years, our meetings would usually take place in the grocery store, and she always had and wanted 10 to 20 minutes or so to talk. She never complained and thought of others always. She will truly be missed, but I will always hold her friendship and Love in my heart. Please remember all of the good times you had with her and nothing bad, for her suffering on this earth is over and she is in the arms of our Lord, truly experiencing His unconditional Love, the Love she always tried to show. And Elda, I will sincerely miss our meetings. Eternal Rest grant unto Elda, Oh Lord, and may Your Perpetual Light shine upon her. God bless.

Jocy & Darren, Aunt Elda was a special fun loving lady who was easy and enjoyable to chat with. I have many great memories of our family get-togethers and functions over the years. Your Mom was nurturing and hospitable when I spent the summer in your family home in 1972, while working as a summer student for the ONR. Your Moms positive attitude, gentle and caring nature, and beautiful smile will always be remembered and dearly missed. Sincerely, Greg Hayes

Dear Jocey and Darren; David and I send our heartfelt condolences to you both on the passing of your Mom. Aunt Elda always had a smile for everyone and your house always seemed filled with friends and relatives enjoying your Mom’s hospitality. Sympathies to Elda’s family. Remember meeting her many years ago while on a prom date with Warren – she was so kind and welcoming. Stayed that way every time I saw her after that…

Jack and I were very saddened to learn of Eldas passing. We were next door neighbours at Round Lake for many years. She called herself the pesky neighbour but we thought of her as the perfect neighbour. Jack loved to do things for her and considered Elda his guardian angel after she was the one to find him after hed fallen off the roof and shattered his elbow. They shared a garden for several years, Jack always making certain to plant the Swiss chard she loved. She sold her cottage and we moved south the same fall; things just worked out that way, but living there without her would not have been the same. I too have many nice memories of Elda. We had fun times picking blueberries. She allowed me to launch my kayak from her beach and she always waved me off if she was at the cottage. Over glasses of wine, we had long conversations; we shared a love of reading and discussed and traded books. I envied the flower bed Elda had nurtured and how there was always something in bloom. I always think of Elda when I see peonies because of the beautiful ones she had by the lake. Jack and I planted a peony at our new home two years ago and it just bloomed for the first time. It seems like a message from Elda. Elda was a lady in every sense of the word. She had a quiet dignity, was always gracious, and had a smile and kind word for everyone. Her wit and humour endured even during difficult times. We will miss her but have wonderful memories to cherish; she will remain in our hearts. Our condolences to Jocelyn, Darren, and the rest of her family. Doreen Yakabuski Jack Vanderburg
