Family of Edna
My condolences again, know that she was a light in our lives every day! We fondly nicknamed her “there there”and she made me laugh on many occasions. I’m unable to make it to the service but am there in spirit
Edna Charlotte (Warren) Nuhn (July 21, 1929 – May 27, 2023)
It is with sadness that we share the passing of our Mom, Edna. Approximately two months short of her 94 birthday, on May 27, 2023 the lady known as Mom, Ma, Grandma, Gran, Peppermint Grandma, Eddy, and Great Gran passed away at Extendicare in Kirkland Lake surrounded by family members and a whole roomful of love.
She is survived by her daughters, Myrna Gibson of Gorrie, Ann (Dale) Rodgers of Tarzwell, and son Leonard (Anne) of Chamberlain Township; seven grandchildren: Julie (Keith) Birnie, Jaime Gibson, Lenny Rodgers, Duane (Kate) Rodgers, Bill (Jessica) Nuhn, Maija (Mike) Inglis and Laurie Nuhn (Jim Johnston); great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Landyn, Emerson, Brealey, Nolan, Nora, Maren and Thomas. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Allen of Manitouwadge and brother Bill of North Bay and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Wilmer (2005), son Bill (1980) and son-in-law Sandy (2020). Edna was also predeceased by her siblings Bernie, Jack (Reta), Erma (Bert), brother-in-law Gordon Allen and sisters-in-law Barb and Faye Warren as well as Dad’s siblings, Amelia, Olga, Oliver, Dorothy, Irma and their spouses.
Mom was born on July 21, 1929, the third daughter of Joe and Florence (Neal) Warren. Her arrival was preceded by minutes by her twin sister Erma. Her eldest sister Evelyn was a mere 11 months old when the twins arrived. These three were not only sisters but forever friends and following their example, we learned there was never anything that could not be accomplished when you have the love and guidance of family.
In 1946, a young man from southern Ontario, ventured north and stole her heart. She married Dad, Wilmer, in a double ceremony with her twin Erma (Bert) Vosdingh in Charlton on September 30, 1947. They moved to Palmerston where they started their family and then Gorrie. In 1967, they moved to a farm in Chamberlain Township.
While living in Gorrie she was employed at Campbell’s Soup in Listowel. When she moved north, as well as working on the farm, she cooked in restaurants and Junior Ranger camps. In 1976 she started working as a chief cook at Shannon Enterprises at various camps throughout Canada. There she became “Mom” to several co-workers as well her boss, Gerry Tobin. Gerry remained a dear friend until his passing.
We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Laurel Bott for helping us with the care of Mom in the past years and her friendship was highly cherished by Mom.
Special thanks to Ellery Veerman at North East LHIN and to all the staff at Extendicare Kirkland Lake who made the very difficult decision of having to hand over the care of Mom to other than family so much easier. We thank you for the care and love shown to Mom during her time with you and the kindness and consideration extended by everyone to the family during Mom’s final days.
The family of Edna Nuhn will welcome family and friends at Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative - Englehart, formerly McDonald Funeral Home (46 Fourth Ave.) on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. A service to honour Edna’s memory will be held in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m.
Edna will be laid to rest in the Charlton Public Cemetery.
