Dorothy Murchie Dorothy's family is sad to announce her passing on June 14th at 91 years of age. Born in Cutler, Ontario in 1921 and raised in Moosonee on James Bay during the depression, Dorothy went on to live most of her adult life in New Liskeard, Ontario. She was a mother, a wife, a nurse, a baker of bread, a canvasser and worker for all sorts of charities, a proud Lioness. She was a giver not a taker; a woman with a kind heart, good values and a sensible approach to life. In retirement, Dorothy spent twelve happy years in Northdale Manor in New Liskeard. We are grateful to the staff there for making her "home away from home" so happy for so long and for welcoming us when we came home to visit. Dorothy left the north just 2 years ago to be closer to her family in the south. We were fortunate that, in her new location at Belmont house in Toronto, one of us was able to visit with her almost every day and share her last few years in a way that hadn't been possible since we were young. The kindness of the caregivers at Belmont House and their genuine affection for Dorothy will long be remembered and appreciated by the whole family. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Barbara (Tracy Warne) and Carol (Malcolm Dunham), her son Andy (Susan Easton), and her grandchildren Alexandra, Roger and Sam. She will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Belmont House Foundation in Toronto or Northdale Manor in New Liskeard. There will be a reception in the MacDonald Room at Belmont House in Toronto on Friday June 21st from 3 to 5pm to celebrate Dorothy's life. A memorial service will be held at Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard on June 29th at 11am. Rev. George Paraskevopolus officiating. Reception to follow the service at the Perrin Funeral Chapel Ltd. If desired donations to Northdale Manor or the Belmont House would be gratefully acknowledged.
