To the Ryan family: My condolences on the loss of your Mother. I remember Connie and Gib when we lived in the apartment above yours on 20 Comfort Street right after WWII. They were friends of my parents Agnes and Jerry Storring.
Born – March 26, 1921
Died – December 22, 2015With heavy hearts and countless fond memories we announce the passing of Mum at the Kirkland & District Hospital at the age of 94.Connie was predeceased in 2006 by her husband of 64 years, Gilbert, and by her three siblings (Kitty, Jack & Ian) and their spouses, as well as Gilbert’s four siblings (Dot, Carm, Edith & Wilf) and their spouses. As her competitive family gently acknowledged, that made her “the winner”.Connie was born in Blythe, England to William and Dorothy Reay and immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 10. She attended KLCVI and proved to be a talented artist. Her artist abilities would bring her enjoyment and fulfillment throughout her life. In her limited spare time she also proved to be a skilled bowler. Connie worked at Wes Bradley Insurance Agency for over 40 years and retired in good health at the age of 60. She would go on to enjoy many summers at the cottage and winters in Florida with a group of new found friends. Mum was a loving, devoted wife and mother who always selflessly put the wants and needs of others before her own. We often marveled at the ease with which she would prepare and serve a bountiful meal for 15 or 20, seemingly on a moment’s notice.Mum always found time to attend the many sporting and varied activities of her children – Terry (Lois), Barry (Brenda), Garth (Maureen), Kelly (Kim), Todd and Sandy (Tom). She was dearly loved by her son and daughters-in-law. Connie was the proud Granma of 19 grandchildren (Michelle, Shawn, Patty, Marnie, Jodi, Darcy, Casey, Amy, Kathryn, Jaimie, Lindsay, Dustin, Katee, Rebecca, Jesse, Nolan, Karley, Morgan and Madison) and the Great Granma (“GG”) of 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.Connie lived at the Teck Pioneer Residence for the past five years receiving compassionate attention from the dedicated nurses and caregivers. Despite the struggles in her final days, she maintained her gentle demeanor and her enduring sense of humor. The Ryan family is extremely grateful to the EMS duo, the ER team, and the doctors and nurses in the ICU who cared for Mum. We also thank Betty, the nurses and caregivers on the 4th floor who supported Mum and her family during her final hours.Service Details
