May my support
warm your heart
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Claude Guy Charbonneau of Englehart on April 5, 2024 at the age of 65. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer.
Claude’s greatest love and accomplishment was his family and friends, but his second love was sports and coaching. Throughout his life Claude had a love for all sports. Whether he was playing softball, hockey, or sponge puck he always knew how to have a good time and made many friends along the way. He loved watching his boys play sports (especially hockey) and he was excited to watch his grandkids journeys as well. Claude was a great mentor, teacher, and friend to many.
Claude had a good career with the Town of Englehart for over 20 years and many people will remember him for being the Zamboni (aka the Olympia) driver from the arena.
After his retirement Claude enjoyed spending time with his little buddy Ollie and princess Clairebear and their many adventures around town and at the park (either on foot or on the riding lawnmower).
Claude is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Claudia; children Patrick Charbonneau and Marc Charbonneau (Katie). He will be missed terribly by his two grandchildren Oliver (Ollie) and Claire (Clairebear) Charbonneau. Also left to mourn are his siblings Yvon (Isabelle) Charbonneau, Carole Hotte (late Andre), special brother-in-law Roger Roy (Kim), sister in laws Sylvie Roy (Bruno) and Lise Roy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Roger and Huguette Charbonneau.
Cremation has taken place as per his wishes. A gathering to celebrate Claude’s life and share memories will be held at a later date in the summer.

The most humble, kind hearted man in the town of Englehart I’ve ever knew. I’m so honoured to have known Claude during my hockey years and growing up as a kid. He’d always let me climb up on the Zamboni and go for a “drive” and whenever I was acting out of line Claude made sure to put me back in line, he’d always motivate our hockey team before going out on the ice to when I reffed, it would always be a hand shake or a kick on the knee pads before hitting the ice. I’m gonna truly miss seeing him walking around town and yelling at him “bonjour, comment ca va” to his loud response “ca va bien!” This town has suffered a big loss today… but his memories will live on in the hearts of his family and the people in this town. God Bless you Claude and may you rest in the arms of the Lord.

Was so very sorry to hear of Claude’s passing. I have very fond childhood memories of playing in the Charbonneau’s backyard. Claude, Carole and I would spent hours building roads and towns with our Tonka trucks.
I felt like part of their family. They taught me French and I taught them English.

We are so sorry for your loss. May beautiful memories help you through this difficult time and keep him close in your hearts.
I was truly shocked and saddened to hear of Claude’s passing. When I think of Claude I think of family. He loved Claudia and his boys so much. He never missed an event they were involved in and loved watching his boys play sports. His face beamed with pride. I can only imagine how much he loved being a grandfather and am sure he would have been coaching Ollie and Claire’s hockey teams. Claude didn’t do anything half-assed and threw himself into anything he was involved in , whether it be his job, the arena or selling $100 raffle tickets for Minor Hockey. He was one of a kind. I will cherish the memories of good times from the year the boys spent together playing hockey for Wabi (Austin 3:16).
Thinking of the Charbonneau and Roy families during this difficult time. xo

I'm shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Claude. He was an amazing person who you could count on for anything and never hesitated to help. You couldn't ask for a better co worker and friend. I'll miss seeing you walking around town and dropping by the rink. It's not going to be the same without you. Rest in peace and my condolences to the Charbonneau family.

Please accept my condolences on your loss. I went to highschool with Claude and he was always a great guy to hang around with. We talked frequently over the years at rinks and ball parks in the area. Conversations were always spirited and enjoyable. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to make his acquaintance. Claude was truly one of a kind.
Some people touch our lives only briefly, while others leave a lasting impression and are never forgotten. Claude will forever be remembered and always have a special place in my heart. Sending love and hugs to the family today, tomorrow, forever Xx.

It is with great sorrow that I have just learned about Claude's passing and it leaves me with a heavy heart. In the time that I was fortunate enough to have had the chance to pass on my knowledge of the work involved with tending to the work involved with being in an arena, I found him a very quick study and a real joy to work with. His sense of humour always brought me and his old work partner Bill Robertson many laughs and kept us on our toes. His dedication to his work at the rink was only surpassed by his love for his family, sports and of course his beloved Montreal Canadiens. Rest assured that he is now reunited with his parents, other family members and old work companions Bill, Glen Milton and Norm Smith. I will hold many fond memories of my "petit chose" and will miss him dearly.
In keeping with my native background, I will make a tobacco offering to the Creator asking that his spirit will be at rest and continue to watch over you. Until we meet again my friend, be at peace and you and my late brother take good care of that rink up there. I would appreciate it if you could let me know when you will hold his celebration of life so I may attend. All my love to you Claudia, Pat & Marc. Hugs to all of you, Charley Hebert
