Maggie & Family
We are so sorry for the loss of a great mother. She had a lot of spunk and was always there to support you along the way.
May she Rest In Peace. She will be missed.

Carolyn Callahan (1947 – 2022)
It is with great sadness that the family of Carolyn Callahan announces her passing. Carolyn passed away at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the age of 75.
Carolyn is predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Kitchener, her father, Frank West, and her brothers, Billy and Teddy West.
She is survived and devotedly remembered by her loving husband, Michael Callahan, her admired brother, Dennis West (Priscilla West), beloved daughters, Margaret “Maggie” James (Gary “Bert” James), Linda “Dewey” Callahan, and Holly Cannon (Jerry Cannon), her cherished grandchildren, Jessica Greening, Andrew Callahan, Casey James and Madison Cannon, and many dear stepchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Carolyn was born in North Bay, Ontario. She later moved to Toronto where she began her family. She returned to North Baywith nothing in her pockets, making the trek by train while pregnant with 2 toddlers in tow, often going without to ensure that they had enough. After her return to the North, she met a charismatic, handsome, and charming truck driver named Mike. On their first date, instead of the customary flowers, Mike presented Carolyn with a loaf of bread and a loaf of bologna to help her feed her small children. This cornerstone momentproved to Carolyn that she had met the man with whom shecould build a happy future for her family and was always one of her fondest memories to share with her loved ones. Carolyn moved to Kirkland Lake with Mike in 1970 to begin their new life together.
Carolyn had an accomplished career of nearly 40 years in the SPD department at the Kirkland Lake Hospital where she enjoyed her work along side many people who became her lifelong friends (her “Golden Girls”). She also dedicated her talents to helping manage and run the family business, Beaver Hill Bait and Tackle, alongside Mike for many years. After her retirement, Carolyn proudly volunteered in the tuck shop at the hospital and, rescued many neighbourhood stray cats (only bringing a couple of them home in the process!) and making donations to Advocates for Northern Animals to ensure that all pets always had what they needed.
Carolyn loved camping at the lake, travelling to beach side destinations, cats, playing baseball, knitting, and giving back to her community; but mostly, she loved spending time with her family and watching them grow. She was always our biggest supporter, our first phone call with news, our shoulder to cry on, our safety net, our loudest cheerleader, and our best friend. She was our definition of home.
Carolyn will be dearly remembered for her tenacity, kindness, generosity, strength, compassion, and never-ending love. Her passing has left a hole that can only be filled by her memory, which we will carry on although she is dearly missed by all who knew her. We hope that heaven takes good care of our angel until we can be with her again.
“A limb has fallen from the family tree that says, ‘grieve not for me’. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song; the good life I lived while I was strong.”
A celebration of life will be held in her honour at her favourite camping spot on a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or Advocates for Northern Animals. Condolences for the family can be left online below.
