BRUCE WAYNE SMITH,

2021

SMITH, Bruce – “Your wings were ready but my heart was not” – It is with extremely heavy hearts, the family of Bruce Smith announces his untimely passing in the arms of his unconditionally loving wife April on November 1st, 2015 at the age of 58. He was surrounded by his adoring family at the Kirkland and District Hospital in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Bruce was predeceased by his father Douglas and is survived by his devoted mother Elsie as well as his son Jeff (Tara) Emms, Kristine (Kirk) Emms, Kara (Tom) Emms, granddaughter Abby Lajoie, grandsons Jackson Emms, Liam Emms-Weliczko, and Cooper Emms as well as several nieces and nephews. Bruce is also survived by his sisters-in-law Kate (Ron) Bell, Theresa (Paul) Watson, Cecile (Bill) L’Heureux, Lucille (Todd) Hamden and brothers-in-law Rob (Shirley) Gannon and Norm (Darlene) Gannon and his son Kyle.Bruce has been battling ALS since he was diagnosed last Christmas. He worked for several years at Rosko and was a very dedicated and hardworking man. Despite his rapidly progressing illness, the unconditional support he received from his family and friends gave him the strength to fight and the courage to face each day without protest.
Bruce was a humble man who never asked for much. He often spent time with family and friends enjoying hobbies like camping, fishing and regular family BBQs. His simple pleasures included playing with the grandchildren, watching the sunset and spending quiet evenings at home with his wife.
We would like to thank everyone who had a hand in making Bruce’s final days comfortable and enjoyable; especially Betty Smallwood (Palliative Care) who provided comfort, advice and clarity regarding Bruce’s condition. Furthermore, all the compassionate nurses and support workers as well as doctors who dedicated their time to Bruce’s care.
The family will welcome friends at the FRENCH FAMILY FUNERAL HOME (111 Burnside Drive, Kirkland Lake, ON., P2N 3L1) on Friday, November 6, 2015 from 10:00am to 12:00 with a legion service at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held from the chapel of the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. A celebration of life in Bruce’s memory will follow at the White Eagle (Polish Hall).
Donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to Timiskaming Hospice Palliative Care (145 Government Road East, Kirkland Lake, ON P2N 3P4) and would be greatly appreciated.Offer Condolence for the family of Bruce Wayne Smith

My deepest condolences to all of you. It was really sad to see this happen to a friend…out at the Knights of Columbus camp, Bruce always gave a hand when needed…always a few adult sodas involved chatting with the guys out at the lake…even some great nights down at the Teck many moons ago…Bruce you were a great man and will be missed by many…as you went through lots in your life, thank you for great guiding words when I was down and out. RIP my friend. from “Hairy”

May you memories give you strength and comfort during this difficult time. Hoping you can find peace in knowing that Bruce knew how much support and love there was for him and your family in his final days. “Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.”
