Beverley Hine,

BEVERLEY HINE,

2021

HINE, Beverley Violet (October 25, 1946 – September 6, 2016) It is with very heavy hearts and heart breathtaking grief that we announce Bev’s passing on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the Kirkland & District Hospital. She fought valiantly to live. Bev was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was predeceased by her husband Gary (September 7, 2005); her parents Robert and Kay (Latchem) Walker. Survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters Janet (Ron) and Wendy as well as her grandchildren Sara (Sonny), Ashlee, (Colton), Brent, Austin Jason, Alexis and her great granddaughter Vanessa. Also left to grieve is her sister Heather (Blain); her niece and nephews Robert (Jen), Heather- Kay (Steven) and Scott (Kayde). She was dearly loved by her great niece and nephew Kayla and Devin.Bev was born in Kirkland Lake and after a brief stint in Southern Ontario, returned to the north twenty-nine years ago where she and Gary bought a home in Matachewan. While she and Gary lived there she devoted countless hours serving as councellor for 2 years and mayor for 20 years. She was elated when the town began to thrive. She was always ready to help organize a fishing derby, supervise a dance or assist in making hot dogs and hamburgers for a special event. She will be missed! Beverley was definitely a “people” person. She thoroughly enjoyed being with others. There is no doubt she had a stubborn streak and often did things “her way”. Not only did Bev like people, she thoroughly enjoyed having a dog or two. For years wherever she went her dogs went also. Gardening was a favorite activity and one could often see her sitting under the carport counting the number of hummingbirds at her feeder as she knit another tea towel. We would be remiss if we didn’t thank Dr. Sara Kurki who did everything in her power to meet Bev’s wishes and needs. Special thank you to Dr. Visbal, the emergency team, the intensive care unit and the fourth floor, your compassion, kindness, thoughtfulness, love and skills are exemplary. All your efforts are sincerely appreciated. The V.O.N have worked tirelessly in their daily efforts to help the healing process and tend to Bev’s multiple needs. Thank you! The family also wants to recognize the Matachewan community who constantly went out of their way to ensure that she was comfortable, fed and loved. We are so grateful to everyone but especially to Annette, Guy, Norman and Roxanne.Cremation has taken place at FRENCH FAMILY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM (111 Burnside Drive, Kirkland Lake, ON P2N 3L1).Gathering

Bev was a great supporter of Nurse Practitioners and she fought to maintain our role at the Matachewan Nursing Station. She was always smiling and ready to do whatever she could to make it better for the town of Matachewan. I know she will be missed. My condolences to Heather, Blaine, Robert, Scott and Heather Kaye, and Bev’s family. Our thoughts are with you.

How very sad I was to hear about Bev. Bev. contributed so much to the Town of Matachewan, both on a personal level and as our highly respected Mayor. Bev. was very supportive of our role in tourism (Horseshoe Island Camp) and helped resolve issues on many occasions for which we were always grateful. My deepest condolences to her family and friends at this sad time. She will be missed.

Janet, Wendy and family, my condolence on the loss of your Mom. The years have passed quickly since your Mom and Dad moved to Matachewan, it just seems like yesterday that we would sit at the kitchen table at the Irvis Heights drinking coffee and chatting and laughing. I have fond memories at Christmas time when we would be again at the kitchen table, baking Christmas cakes, cookies, all starting in early December! Bev baked for a army and loved sharing her Christmas treats. Gary would laugh at how many pairs of boots would be lined up neatly down the hall by their apartment door, as there was always a continuous stream of company at the apartment! There are so many fond memories of your mom. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Claudette Boyko
