BURTSCHENKO, Anna (nee Demura) 1921 – 2019:  It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anna Burtschenko on Friday, February 8, 2019, at the age of 97 at Teck Pioneer Residence surrounded by her loving family.She is predeceased by her father, Alexander Demura; mother, Maria Demura; husband, Boris Burtschenko (1976); infant son, Nikoli; sister, Sasha and brother, Nikoli, all from the Ukraine.  She is also predeceased by her friend Paul Schpitzer from Kirkland Lake.She is survived by her brother Anatol Demura of Adelaide, Australia, daughter Tamara Cooper (Brent), son Victor Burtschenko (Debra) and her grandchildren, Katherine Grant (Rob); Jennifer Nychuk (Chris), Michael Burtschenko (Kaitlyn Graham), Sandra Roy (Patrick), Katie Burtschenko (Gord Sinclair) and her great grandchilden:   Tessa, Dylan, Mackenzie, Makayla, Jeremy, Jacob and Alexander.  She was very proud of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to spend time with them.  She was known as Baba to everyone who knew her.She attended university in the Ukraine to become a teacher and valued education.  She immigrated to Canada in 1951, eventually moving to Kirkland Lake and working at KLCVI until retirement.  Her passions were gardening, fishing, hunting, picking blueberries, baking and cooking Ukrainian foods.She remained in her home until she became ill and then spent her last years in the Kirkland and District Hospital and Teck Pioneer Residence.Donations in memory of Anna may be made to the Kirkland and District Hospital Activities Department (145 Government Road East, Kirkland Lake, ON P2N 3P4).In keeping with Anna’s wishes, a private family service will be held.Offer Condolence for the family of Anna Burtschenko

Always reading about Kirkland Lake, And sorry to hear about your mom, Tamara. I remember her as a sweet lady. She certainly lived a good long life. My mom lived to 96…we are lucky to have had them for such a long time, are you still in North Bay, occasionally we visit family there. Remember our friendship from the 60s.
