SCHAFFNER, Alph

1932 - 2020

Family announces with sadness the peaceful passing of Mr. Alph Schaffner at the Timmins & District Hospital, on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the age of 88. Husband of the late Elizabeth Schaffner (58 years), cherished father of Amelia Schaffner (Paul Alaire) and Barry (Leisa) Schaffner, grandfather Kirsty Roy nee Schaffner (Patrick), Brittany Elliott nee Schaffner (Dustin), Joshua Williams, Mark Williams, David Malherbe, Katrina Malherbe, Nicholas Williams and Gabriella Schaffner. Also survived by sister and brothers Tillie, John (Kelly) and Roger (Yvette). Predeceased by brothers and sister Tony, Gerald and Theresa. Predeceased by his parents Mary and Henry Schaffner, and his daughter Lisa Schaffner. Alph was a momentous family figure that found pleasure in helping his community and bringing his family together. His dedication to the rail road as a locomotive engineer was an important part of his life; officially from March 23rd, 1950 (with a proud 2-year service before the official date) until 1990 where he spent his retired years spending time with his grandchildren and family. Alph was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree). Alph will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he touched; numerous nieces and nephews, friends and relatives. We would like to thank the Sudbury Northeastern Cancer Centre, Nurses Rick and Nick from Bayshore Home Heath, Nurse Chrissy in Hospice at TDH and all Medical staff involved in his care. A special thank you to Dr. Kanya Forstner for his compassion and support. The family of the late Mr. Alph Schaffner will receive friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart, Friday, August 28, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Englehart on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11:00 am.
