CONDIE, Alice Gwendolyn

1929 - 2021

Alice Gwendolyn Condie (nee Buchanan) passed away peacefully on May 11, 2021 at the age of 91. She is survived by her husband of almost 71 years, Delbert Condie, sons Derek(Susan) of Kenogami, Clint(Leanne) of Calgary and Trevor(Amanda) of Calgary. She is also survived by grandchildren Dustin of Toronto and Faye, Jane, Kate, Erica, Andrea and Caroline of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Madeline Buchanan, her brother Malcolm Buchanan and sister-in-law Mildred, sister Shirley Clark and brother-in-law Ivan and two twin brothers in infancy.

Alice was born in Cobalt, Ontario on November 30, 1929. She spent much of her childhood and teenage years in Kirkland Lake. She and Delbert were married in 1950 and raised their family in Kirkland Lake before moving to Larder Lake in 1969. She enjoyed the quiet life of afternoon tea with neighbours, walks in the bush with friends in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. For over thirty years, she served as the navigator on her and Delbert’s annual road trip to Alberta to see the kids and grandkids.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Extendicare Kirkland Lake for their wonderful care and service over the last two years. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Delbert and family.

Both Billie-Jean and Merdy Armstrong are very sad to hear of the passing of Alice. Our sons Jim and Brian played a lot of sports with her boys. She had passed but will not be forgotten. Rest now Alice before you start your walks UP there

You have my most sincere condolences on the loss of your dear Alice. Alice was an extraordinary woman who I remember fondly from my childhood days hanging around the Condie place on McKelvie followed by trips to Derek's games at the KL Arena in the black Merc and then watching Clint and myself playing bantam together to Larder trips once I had my license. Alice was a straight shooter with a warm and honest laugh and a one-of-a-kind remarkable voice. By all accounts, Alice was a great mother as well. With Delbert by her side, they raised strong, intelligent and independent sons much like the two of them. I hope that the wonderful memories you have of Alice put a smile on your face and help to get you through these difficult days.

What a beautiful picture of my dear friend of so many years—
Alice was a friend, neighbour and occasionally my cat sitter— she did not really like cats—
She was loved by so many friends including my children. She loved a visit from my grandchildren when they were visiting.
So many beautiful memories to cherish — of course with the many talks with Del too.
Alice always said to me as her memory declined, you are welcome to come see me any time !
Our sincere condolences to all of Alice’s family —gone but never forgotten

My mom, Lorraine Davreux, sends her sincere condolences. She has fun and fond memories of many great winter afternoons cross country skiing with Alice, Del, and Pat on the Larder trails. Thinking of you all at this time.
